Argos initiates its Lecture/Exhibit Series on printmaking with a showing of fifty prints
by historically important painter/printmakers. Included are Durer, Rembrandt, Hogarth,
Daumier, Corot, Kollwitz, Kandinski and many more (see below). This first lecture of our series with
Dr. Bell will tour five hundred years of printmaking technique and inspiration, while
offering an up-close look at the artwork through the eyes of a major collector. Most
prints will be for sale.
The Exhibit will be limited to the weekend of December 8th. Friday will feature a
preview opening from 4-7pm. Saturday will feature the lecture at two times, 10am and
4pm. These will run an hour each with a discussion afterward, along with
refreshments. Space is limited. Attendance is by reserved seating only. Call or e-mail
Argos for reservations or for more information.
The artwork is from the collection of Dr. Robert Bell, a Santa Fe collector. Dr. Bell has
collected prints for over four decades, building one of the largest private print
collections in the world. He is a major donor of prints to universities and museums and
has lectured widely on the history and technique of printmaking. He has been a
patron of Santa Fe printmakers since 1980 and supports the Santa Fe Etching Club.
The Club works out of the open studio of Jo Basiste and exhibits at Argos.
